Who am I..???

My name is Debbie Brussaard, born in 1962 and I live with my 6 Shelties (ages 1 to 13 years), chickens, rabbits and buggies in the eastern part of the Netherlands in the province of Drenthe, next to the German border. In fact, I can see the windmills in Germany from my back yard!
Born in Australia, emigrated as a child to Holland and continued "emigrating" within the Netherlands I don't really belong anywhere, but I don't mind....as long as I have my doggies and my computer I'm a happy person ;-)

My first Shelties
came to live with me in 1992. Gwendy and Gorsey, soon followed
by Sita. That's where the name Gwen-si-gor's comes
from.
Quite shortly after this I was "infected" with the "breeders virus" and so my first litter was born in 1994. After that more litters and lovely Shelties followed, but being the perfectionist I am I never really got what I was looking for. Further more the whole breeding/show scene wasn't really my cup of tea, so after 10 years I decided to spill my energy elsewhere. Nowadays I'm living with 7 Shelties with whom I love to show every now and then. My Major has several champion titles in both Holland and Germany and he was selectively used at stud, but he's retired now. His son Forrest is a very promising young lad, already German Youth Champion, and hopefully he will take over his father's place at stud. Even though I quit breeding Shelties myself, I do like to have stud dogs and help out breeders who are just starting out in the breed. But most of my energy
and time goes to the Sheltie Rescue. Together with three
friends I
We help all Shelties, whether they are pedigree dogs or not. We track down the puppy farmers and try to educate people not to help this industry by buying their puppies or taking in their older, no longer producing Shelties. |
started a foundation in 2007, thinking we would only have a
few Shelties per year to help, but soon we found out that
quite a lot of Shelties were in need of new homes or owners
in need of help and advise. So we
help every way we can. We take this all very seriously and
are very selective in who we choose for our "adoption
Shelties". Our foundation is a non profit organization
and we are financially supported by donations. My task
within the foundation is next to first hand help to
shelties and their owners, webmaster and treasurer. You may not be able to

Me and Forrest...we just LOVE to cuddle ;-) Forrest loves all the attention when we're at shows. 2009 has been a lovely year for showing. I've made a special page with photo's taken during several shows.
